Dr. Jeannette Freed was, as she puts it, "Grumpy, frumpy, and dumpy," when she had the mac and cheese moment. As she was eating what she estimates was $.50 worth of left over mac and cheese that her baby didn't want so it wouldn't go to waste, she realized she was treating herself and her body like it was worth less than $.50.
That's when everything changed started to change, one step at a time. More water, more sleep, less garbage mac and cheese.
Today, it's five years later and Dr. Freed is 95 pounds lighter and feeling better about herself and the world around her and she's here to share managable tips to make you feel better so you can make your mission happen more effectively.
Dr. Freed mentioned another podcast on the show called Cultivate Connection, you can find it here: https://www.cultivateconnection.ca/.

Tuesday Dec 19, 2017
Tuesday Dec 19, 2017
"The first step is that people have to acknowledge that we want to do something about this and it won't be status quo. First people have to own the problem, then work towards fixing it." Maranda Richardson, Principal and Founder of MWR Consulting, is back to talk about board diversity.
According to Board Source's recent publication, Leading with Intent, while more people are TALKING about board diversity, the number of diverse members of nonprofit boards has actually decreased over the past few years. Maranda has spent her career advancing equity, particularily in communities of color and shares her strategies to grow the diversity of nonprofit boards and staffs.
Contact Maranda at maranda@mwrconsultingservices.com and check out our previous interview with her on Giving Circles at http://the501crossroads.podbean.com/e/growth-of-giving-circles-with-maranda-richardson/.

Wine on One- Office Furniture and the Nonprofit Life
Tuesday Jun 20, 2017
Tuesday Jun 20, 2017
When was the last time your nonprofit got new furniture... no, real new furniture, not a hand me down from your spouse's office or a well loved couch covered in animal hair... real new furniture. Should nonprofits spend donated dollars on furniture? Does looking poor help you raise more? What's the right balance. Marjorie and Natalie break it down in today's Wine on One.

You probably read the article from the Charleston City Paper by Angel Postell entitled Constantly Asking Restaurants to Give Freebies to Charities has Got to Stop.
Owner of BEAST Craft BBQ Co. in Belleville, IL, David Sandusky had to respond to Angel and all other restaurant owners who don't think that giving is part of a smart business plan.
David shared his strategy and motivation for giving to the community and what nonprofits can do to increase their chances of a gift... but not his recipe for the fry sauce that Marjorie can't get enough of.
You can show your support for this true community supporter by going to BEAST Craft BBQ Co. at 20 S Belt W, Belleville, IL 62220, going to their website at http://www.beastcraftbbq.com/ or calling 618-257-9000 or checking them out on Facebook.
